Beni Ourain, Mrirt, Azilal or Boujaad? A Guide to Moroccan Rug Styles

Moroccan rugs are named after the regions and weaving traditions they come from. Each style has its own look. Here is a short guide to the four styles in our collection.

Beni Ourain

Beni Ourain rugs come from the Middle Atlas and are the best known of Moroccan rugs. They are made of thick, soft wool, usually on a natural ivory ground, with dark lines in diamonds, lattices or zigzags. The look is calm and graphic. They suit minimalist and Scandinavian interiors, living rooms and bedrooms. See our Beni Ourain rugs.

Mrirt

Mrirt rugs also come from the Middle Atlas. They are known for their soft, textured wool and a relaxed, contemporary feel. In our collection, Mrirt rugs bring a single color or two, such as terracotta, sage green, burgundy, mustard or navy, to an ivory ground, in shapes like arches, ovals and waves. See our Mrirt rugs.

Azilal

Azilal rugs come from the High Atlas. Their designs are free and expressive: small symbols such as diamonds, crosses and triangles are placed by hand on a natural ground, often in bright colors. Each rug looks a little different. They suit a room that needs some color and playfulness. See our Azilal rugs.

Boujaad

Boujaad rugs are known for their bold colors and strong compositions. They work well as a statement piece in a living room, bedroom or reading nook. See our Boujaad rugs.
